About Me

Hi everyone, my name is Chris, and I'm a Maker.

It started with model cars. From about age 7 to age 15, I built dozens of model cars. I got into hobby-grade radio control cars for a while, but I couldn't find anyone to race with and it only took an evening to assemble a buggy kit so eventually I got tired of racing up and down the street in front of my house and seeing how high I could make a jump and still land in one piece. Next it was on to real cars, and installing car stereos, and building custom speaker boxes. That led into some experimentation with electronics circuitry while I was in university.

Then I found Games Workshop, and Warhammer, which let me be creative in assembling my characters and armies and then play a game with other people. But painting an army of similar figures gets boring and is not really my kind of creative - there is no engineering involved. So I found myself interested in woodworking. What a great hobby to justify the purchase of a lot of expensive tools - but those tools are so enabling for making all kinds of things, from home improvement type projects, to traditional woodworking projects like furniture and boxes, to more more maker-type projects like tools and jigs to be used to make other things. While I wouldn't want to say my woodworking days are over, I've recently developed an obsession with radio control aircraft, particularly designing and scratch-building them from foam.
